Meeting your heart

Our hearts are our feelings, emotions, our dreams, desires and fears. They are what motivates us, what moves us. You have already taken a big step towards meeting your heart if you started writing Daily Pages at the beginning of this course. If you have not, go back now and start now!
This week, re-examine these daily pages. What have you written about? What did you feel strongly about, whether you realised it at the time or not? How did these things you wrote about manifest in your daily life? Did you focus upon your experiences, your dreams and plans, or your fears? Which of them did manifest?
Right now you probably have only a limited amount of material to work with. Keep up writing those daily pages. Re-examine them from time to time, and you will find interesting things about yourself and your life.
In addition to re-examining your daily pages, there is another awareness exercise for you. Just as you learned more about your body by focusing your awareness on different parts, you can learn more about your heart by focussing your awareness on your emotions. Pick one day this week and try to be consciously aware of your emotions constantly during this day. If possible, note them down whenever they change, if not, just realize them. Try to identify what elicits your emotional responses. What makes you happy? Angry? Smiling? Sad? Tired? Be honest – you will not show your notes, your insights, to anybody, so you can be honest with yourself. Be accepting. You probably are not happy with some of your reactions – it does not matter. Do not try to change yourself during this day – try to learn about yourself. If you cannot make notes during the day, write down what you remember about the day in the evening. Remember: you do this to learn about yourself. There is no competition, no goal, so just be honest with yourself.
